Molecular Dimensions – Case study

Molecular Dimensions is a world leading supplier of screens, reagents and instrumentation for protein structure determination by X-ray crystallography. Good computer systems are key to the smooth running of their business.
As well as being used for email and general office work, they also rely on the system for tracking orders and sales, processing their accounts, and for managing stock levels. Based in Newmarket with 16 staff, they decided to outsource their IT Support to 4Cambridge. For the last three years 4Cambridge has provided a full managed IT support service to Molecular Dimensions. This includes monitoring and proactive maintenance of their Microsoft Small Business Server, management of their network, and helpdesk support for all their staff.
“Our monitoring service automatically alerts us to any issue on the servers, checking critical services are running, backups are successful, and disk space capacity is OK,” says Jon Stanton of 4Cambridge. “If a problem is flagged up, it can often be addressed before it impacts on any of the staff. “Our remote support tools give us access to the users desktop to help diagnose and resolve issues quickly and easily. This has helped us to provide assistance to Molecular Dimensions staff when working out of the country, giving them support even when they are away from the office.”
Being able to use a provider they already knew and trusted was key in choosing 4Cambridge. 4Cambridge is part of the PEM business group. Molecular Dimensions were already using PEM for accounting services, and this gave them confidence in the high level of service they would get from 4Cambridge.
Tony concludes: “Outsourcing our IT support took a lot of weight of our shoulders. There is always someone on hand from 4Cambridge to help, and we get a rapid response when we need it. It’s a trouble free service.”
