Patch management & the Spectre of an IT Security Meltdown

09/01/2018 - Information Technology

Its never good news when IT security makes the headlines.  This week has seen widespread reporting in the media around a vulnerability with computer chips - with exciting names like Spectre and Meltdown.

The flaws relate to nearly all computing devices such as laptops, desktops, servers, phones and tablets. It also applies to a mix of operating systems across providers including Apple, Microsoft and Linux.

All the software providers are busy preparing and releasing updates to fix the flaws, and again this emphasises the importance of patch management.  Now the vulnerabilities are publicly known, getting machines protected before exploits are released is critical.

As part of our plan to mitigate the risk to clients we will be ensuring that the updates are pushed out to managed machines as soon as possible.  Patch management is a core part of our inclusive IT support contracts, and our management systems push the updates out automatically to all machines under contract.

If you want your organisation to be protected, contact us to find out more about our inclusive IT support contracts.
