Securing the human layer

23/06/2026 - Information Technology

🔐 Security technology is important (your firewalls, antivirus and email filtering tools) but for many organisations the biggest risk is their own staff.

⁉️ This usually isn't intentional. It's the accidental clicking on an email link that's a "bit iffy". Or ignoring the "dodgy looking alert message" on screen and just carrying on. It usually happens because people are busy, often working under pressure to meet deadlines. And it also happens because sometimes people aren't aware of the risks. 😯

💡 That's where security awareness training comes in. Helping users understand the risks, and make sure they are an additional line of defence. The training comes in two parts. We start with ethical phishing tests, where we find out how likely users are to click on suspicious emails. Because staff know they are being tested - they become more alert to the risks and take more care when opening.  Then we have regular online training - short, engaging and relevant to everyday work.  ✅

4Cambridge provide this as a managed service, configuring and setting it all up for you. We use the KnowBe4 platform, which includes great training content such as The Inside Man TV-style drama, developed to entertain as well as educate. It's probably the only time when watching TV at work is actively encouraged! 📺
