Still using Windows 10? Your options to remain supported

07/01/2026 - Information Technology

Are you still using Windows 10 in your organisation? Microsoft ended support for Windows 10 in October 2025. But if you are still using it then you have options to make sure you are supported.

1. Upgrade to Windows 11. Microsoft allow you to upgrade your Windows 10 devices to Windows 11 without having to buy a new licence- so you can continue with the same hardware and get the benefits of the latest technology. If your device is less that 5 years old then this will probably be your best option. Older devices may not be able to run Windows 11, so you need to check before trying to upgrade.

2. Take out extended support for Windows 10. Microsoft have acknowledged that not everyone is ready to upgrade to Windows 11. This may be because you have legacy software that needs updating to run on Windows 11, or you have devices that are not capable of running Windows 11. Microsoft have therefore make support and updates available, for a charge. This is £58 for the year to October 2026, and will then double for the following year. This may be a good short-term option for some clients, giving you more time to plan your Windows 11 migration.

3. Replace with a new Windows 11 device. If your laptop or PC is quite old, now could be the right time to upgrade. Not only will you benefit from faster processing and memory, but you will also get the security and performance improvements that come with Windows 11.

If you have compliance requirements, such as Cyber Essentials, then continuing to run Windows 10 without extended support is a red flag you need to address.
